Hebrews 8:6, “But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises.”
We are the Victory Missionary Baptist Church, an encouraging ministry, where love is unconditional, and learning a better way, to live a better life is our goal.
Our house of worship is located at 474 Rockaway Ave, Brooklyn, NY. Our location allows for people to spontaneously peak in on our services, through our glass doors and windows, and hear our services while shopping at the nearby stores.
To make ourselves hospitable, we dress casually, so that those who unexpectedly attend our worship services will feel comfortable.
Our congregation consist of average people, who the Lord has delivered from a life of defeat and is now developing into a life of victory.
We receive everyone as they are, and our prayer is that they will leave transformed.
Our pastor is the Reverend Marvin G. Gatling. Pastor Gatling was licensed to preach and Ordained as a minister of the gospel, under the late Dr. Spurgeon E. Crayton of the Holy Trinity Baptist Church, Amityville, NY; where his mother served as Church Mother, and his father served as Deacon Emeritus.
Pastor Gatling has been our under-shepherd since November 1997. He was called when we resided at 244 Howard Ave, in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, NY. In March 2018, under his leadership, the Lord relocated our ministry to 474 Rockaway Ave, in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, NY. Since then, our church has experienced growth in quantity of membership, and quality of ministry.
He is married to First Lady Cathy L. Gatling, who shares in working in the ministry of the church. Together they have a blended family of 7 children and 13 grandchildren.
The purpose for evangelism is to lead those struggling with defeats to a life of victory in Christ Jesus. We conduct our evangelism in front of our house of worship, by talking to people, handing out tracks, and showing ourselves friendly.
Acts 2:41, “Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.”
Acts 2:47b, “…And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
The purpose for our discipleship ministry is to educate the believer on biblical principles and practices for victorious living.
Our discipleship ministry is taught through our Virtual Encouraging Word Bible study on Tuesdays, except on the Tuesday after the first Sunday of the month, due to communion service. It is aired on Zoom, Facebook, and our website.
Acts 2:42, “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.”
The purpose for communion is to fulfill one of the ordinances of the church, whereby the Lord said, “do this in remembrance of me” (See 1 Corinthians 11:24-25). We come together through virtual means, every Tuesday after the first Sunday of the month, at 7:00 p.m. to break bread in honor of the Lord’s body that was broken for us, and to drink the cup that contained the wine, representing the New Testament of his blood that was shed for our sins.
Acts 2:46b, “…They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts…”
The purpose for our fellowship is to provide social contact, physical support, and solidarity of our members to validate each other’s worth and value.
Our fellowships are maintained through social media such as group chats, zoom, and in person fellowship on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m.
Acts 2:42, “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.”
Acts 2:44, “All the believers were together and had everything in common.”
The purpose of our youth ministry is to lead the youth, ages five to seventeen, into a relationship with the Lord, so that they will discover their: purpose for living, their gifts for succeeding, and God’s plan for them to reach their full potential.
Our youth ministry is named after Brother Lloyd Drain III, one of our leading youths, who was murdered. Lloyd was a big fella in stature and thus was given the nickname, “Big Daddy.” He had a heart for people, loved his pastor, and participated in every ministry of the church. He was revered by his school as an excellent student and had plans to attend college. But most of all, Lloyd was a mentor to our youth. Therefore, we honor this young man by naming our Youth Ministry after him.
Deuteronomy 6:6, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7, Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
Our congregation consist of average people, who the Lord has delivered from a life of defeat and is now developing into a life of victory.
